What we are not saying:

  • We are not saying that you should not play with your child, or goof around with your child.
  • We are not saying that you should make it your main aim to teach your child certain skills within a certain timeframe.
  • We are not saying that you should test your child by asking, say, “What’s 2 + 2?” Show your child the solution to an equation, or at most, ask her to choose from two or three possible solutions.

What we are saying:

  • We are saying that children can and should be taught math as babies, and that children would benefit from preschool math lessons.
  • We are recommending that parents spend a little time each day teaching their child mathematics. In doing so, we suggest that they make the most of all the tools and advice at their disposal.
  • We are hoping that parents everywhere will take the time to bond with their children while enjoying the experience of teaching and learning math.
